Cambodia Trust (Now called Esteemed).
Cambodia Trust Ireland (now called Exceed Ireland) supports people with disabilities living in poverty by providing free prosthetic and orthotic services in South East Asia and parts of Africa. It does this through its affiliation with Exceed Worldwide (formerly known as The Cambodia Trust) by:
-Equipping: Training of prosthetic and orthotic (P&O) students to international
standards at one of five P&O schools.
-At rehabilitation clinics linked tothese schools, the Prosthetists make and fit artificial limbs (prosthesis)and supports (orthotics) for those least able to pay for these lifechanging services.
Enabling: Training P&Os to enable them to provide prosthesis and orthotics to people with disabilities so that they gain or regain mobility and a path way to opportunity and independence.
Empowering: With growing confidence, increased independence and self-esteem, the people we support often become role models and advocates for people with disabilities and their rights.
Our partnership with Cambodia Trust culminated to a 10 days trip to Sierra Leone, with a team- comprising of Prosthetic specialists from Cambodia Trust in Ireland , as well as trustees from our Charity. The team visited various amputee sites in Freetown and the Eastern province, to examine the extend and nature of the problems faced by amputees. Extensive counselling was carried out with children, adults as well as women, who lost their limbs during the civil war in Sierra Leone. We intend to continue to work with them to implement the recommendations made by them after the trip.
